Ok. I must admit that I was still drinking when I wrote this song. I had a beer in hand while I was typing out the lyrics back in 2003. The lyrics just spilled out of me like water. It wasn't hard to write at all...which is kinda creepy considering that it was from the perspective from a female (how the Hell do I know what a female would say/feel? I dunno. Just went with it. Happens in songwriting, sometimes.)
I originally had written this song for KAMPUS PROJECT and for Kelly Yacono to sing this tune. However, it didn't seem to gel when we recorded it. In short, she wasn't comfortable with the tune altogether. So, I shelved the tune for 4 years.
I asked Jen Porter, on a whim, if she'd be interested in singing this song. Knowing that she was busier than God Himself, I was SURE that she'd turn it out. The joke was on me, huh? Ladies and gentlemen, she BLEW ME AWAY with her rendition (which I did not hear until we got in the studio.) She laid the vocals down and nailed it in 20 minutes!
As for the guitar solo at the end, I had ALWAYS heard this solo in my head. But, never could get it down as such back in 2003. So, revamping the end of the song, Chris Tiritilli from Chris T. and the Business HAPPENED to be in the studio that day. Since I was having trouble landing/nailing the solo, my engineer, Dave Schloss, suggested that we let Chris take a stab at it. Again, people, PURE MAGIC! It was totally the Eddie Van Halen "Beat It" story! He only did 3 takes in the studio.
And guess which take we used for the recording? That's right...the 1st one! (We didn't touch or doctor it at all! Every note that's there is from him! I couldn't have asked for better for the whole song! You can hear it, I hope! :D)
Lyrics
PLEASE LET ME BE
(Words/Music by David Kav – Copyright 2003, 2007. David Kav Ltd. All rights reserved.)
So it seems I’m out on the town dressed to kill
But that doesn’t mean I’m here to hunt you down - hunt you down
CHORUS
Please let me be - I just wanna be left alone
Please let me be - I’m no good here on my own
They say I’ve got style and that I shouldn’t be left alone
I don’t need your “kindness” to find what I came here for – came here for
CHORUS
Please let me be - I just wanna be left alone
Please let me be - I’m no good here on my own
Please let me be - Why can’t I be left alone?
Please let me be - I just wanna be on my own
BRIDGE
And if you’ll insist on taking me to your home
Don’t be surprised if I harshly put you down
I am only a woman - who wants my freedom and who wants my pride
And I will not hesitate to say “no.” To say “no.”
They say I’ve got style and that I will not be alone
The humour and the pain – that’s all I’ve been shown
Once again - all that I’m shown, and I’m out here all alone
CHORUS
Please let me be - I just wanna be left alone
Please let me be - I’m no good here on my own
You will let me be - If I have to take it out on my own
So please let me be - Because you are left on your own
